從兒格 (Following Child Pattern) is a Following Pattern (從格) in which the Day Master, finding itself completely surrounded and overwhelmed by Output elements (食神 and 傷官 — the Eating God and Hurting Officer), abandons resistance and fully surrenders to the creative flow. Rather than fighting against the dominant energy, the Day Master "follows the child" — embracing the outward, expressive, generative force and riding it to its natural destination. This is among the most artistic of all destiny patterns, producing individuals whose identity is inseparable from what they create.

Formation Conditions

The Following Child Pattern belongs to the special category of Following Patterns (從格/변격), which require the Day Master to be extremely weak while one element dominates the chart overwhelmingly:

• The Day Master must be very weak — lacking support from Resource (印) elements or Companion (比劫) elements in the major pillars. Ideally, the Day Master appears isolated with no empowering helpers.


• Output elements (食神 and/or 傷官) must dominate the chart overwhelmingly — appearing in month, year, hour, and stems — with no meaningful resistance from elements that would control Output (Resource elements control Output by strengthening the Day Master; Officer/Killings would not typically appear against Output in this structure).


• The pattern is invalidated if strong Resource or Companion elements appear, because they would revive the Day Master's resistance and break the "following" dynamic. Even a single powerful supporter of the Day Master can disqualify the pattern.


• Wealth elements (財) are welcome as they sit downstream of Output (Output generates Wealth), naturally fitting the flowing creative-to-material chain.


• The chart must be read as a complete surrender: the Day Master has given up its own agenda and rides the Output tide entirely.

Favorable Gods (Yongsin) and Unfavorable Gods

Favorable (用神 / Beneficial Gods):

• Output (食傷): The ruling energy of the pattern. Strong, unobstructed Output elements are the core favorable force — they are what the Day Master follows.


• Wealth (財): As the natural downstream beneficiary of Output, Wealth elements are welcome. When creative expression flows into material reward, the Following Child reaches its fullest expression.


• Elements that strengthen Output: Anything that enhances the dominant creative force without reviving the Day Master's resistance is favorable.

• Resource (印): The most damaging element in this pattern. Resource would strengthen the Day Master, breaking the following dynamic and turning the chart unstable. Even a single strong Resource element can destroy the pattern's integrity.


• Companion (比劫): Similarly, Companion elements revive the Day Master's independence and disrupt the surrender to Output energy.


• Officer/Killings (官殺): These control Output, which is the dominant favorable force. When Officers or Killings appear, they suppress the creative flow that this pattern depends on.

Strengths

• Pure creative expression: Following Child individuals are, in a sense, conduits for creative energy. Their identity is so thoroughly merged with their creative output that they produce with a naturalness and authenticity that formally trained artists often cannot replicate.

• Practical life difficulties: The wholehearted surrender to creative energy leaves limited attention for finances, administrative responsibilities, and the structural aspects of adult life. Without support systems, practical affairs deteriorate.


• Instability when the pattern breaks: If strong Resource or Companion elements enter through luck cycles, the chart's balance is disrupted — the "following" breaks down, and the individual may experience a profound identity crisis.


• Difficulty with commitment and routine: The free-flowing creative orientation resists obligation, schedule, and repetitive commitment. Long-term institutional employment or fixed responsibilities chafe.
