Business & Startup Luck in Saju
"Am I built for a paycheck, or for running my own thing?" This is one of the oldest questions people bring to Saju (Korean Four Pillars), and it's one the tradition answers with surprising precision. Rather than a yes/no fortune, Saju hands you a map of how your energy wants to move — and entrepreneurship is a very specific kind of movement. Below, we translate the classical vocabulary into the language of founders, products, revenue, and timing.
The three axes that decide business aptitude
Every chart can be read for business through three of the Ten Gods (십신):

The single most important pattern is Output feeding Wealth (식상생재) — literally, "skill and production give birth to money." Output is the creative engine (what you make, say, or build); Wealth is the result it converts into. A chart where Output flows cleanly into Wealth describes someone whose ideas naturally become income. This is the beating heart of entrepreneurial talent. A chart heavy in Wealth but with no Output to generate it often points to a manager of existing money rather than a maker of new money.
Companion/Rob-Wealth (비겁) is the double-edged one. It grants independence, nerve, and appetite for risk — the willingness to bet on yourself that every founder needs. But the same star also "splits Wealth": in excess it signals capital dispersion, partnership friction, and cash-flow leaks. Strong Companion energy is a founder's fuel and a founder's hazard in the same breath.
Strong vs weak Day Master: the vessel question
The Day Master (일간) is you. A strong Day Master can carry a lot of Wealth and Output — it has the personal force to shoulder a market, absorb setbacks, and keep pushing through the chaos of early-stage building. Strong Day Master plus lively Wealth/Output is the classic self-employment signature.
A weak Day Master with heavy Wealth produces the well-known caution "much wealth, weak self" (재다신약): the money is there to chase, but the person burns out chasing it. This isn't a life sentence against business — it's a design note. Such charts often thrive with a co-founder who supplies structure, inside an organization first, or in a professional/expertise-led venture rather than a capital-hungry one. Knowing your vessel size tells you how big a fire you can safely light.
Timing: when to launch
Saju timing runs on the luck cycle (대운, ~10-year seasons) and the annual year (세운). The favorable windows are when these cycles bring in Wealth or Output that your chart welcomes (i.e., matches your useful god / 용신). When a welcomed Wealth luck arrives, capital, customers, and results open up — a green light for launching or scaling. When a welcomed Output luck arrives, the product/creative engine surges, ideal for building and shipping the thing you'll later sell.
Handle two windows with care:
- Clash years (충) — a direct clash to your chart signals upheaval; good for pivots and breaking old structures, risky for signing long fixed commitments.
- Rob-Wealth-heavy years (겁재) — protect cash flow and partnership terms; competition sharpens and money tends to scatter. Grow substance, not headcount.
Three worked examples (illustrative, not real people)
A — The Output-feeds-Wealth creator. A strong Water Day Master with abundant Wood Output flowing into Fire Wealth. Ideas convert to income almost automatically. Best fit: content, media, design, product-led software — anything "make it, then sell it." Their favorable launch window arrived in a Fire (Wealth) luck cycle, when their built-up audience finally monetized.
B — The "much wealth, weak self" over-reacher. A weak Earth Day Master surrounded by strong Water Wealth. Opportunities everywhere, stamina to match none of them. The guidance: don't self-fund a capital-heavy venture solo. Partner for structure, keep the day job through the first Output luck cycle that strengthens the self, and launch lean once the vessel is reinforced.
C — The Rob-Wealth solo operator. A chart dense with Companion/Rob-Wealth. Fierce independence, poor tolerance for shared control. Equal-split partnerships historically fracture here. Best fit: a solo expert practice or a clearly majority-owned company with roles and equity nailed down in writing before day one.
Reading your own chart's business signal
1. Find your Output→Wealth flow. If production feeds money, lean into making-and-selling.
2. Weigh your Day Master. Strong → you can front the venture; weak → borrow structure and start lean.
3. Check your Companion load. Heavy → go solo or formalize partnerships ruthlessly.
4. Watch your cycles. Launch and invest into welcomed Wealth/Output luck; consolidate through clash and Rob-Wealth years.
